My name is Karen. I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (License #3956). I used to work as a computer programmer but found that I enjoyed working with people more than computers. I then switched careers and have been working in the field of counselling since 2003.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have education and experience in using a variety of therapies aimed at individuals, couples, families, and groups. I also have additional training in advanced Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Attachment Theory, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and various other therapies. Because I am trained in a variety of counselling therapies, I am able to match clients with the therapies that work best for them. As needed, I consult with other psychologists anonymously and confidentially to ensure that I am providing you with the best possible services in an ethical manner.
I view counselling as a is a cooperative process in which we will discuss and create counselling goals that will help guide our time together. I am responsible to ensure the best choice in counselling methodology for your concern and for creating a safe and healing environment. You are responsible to be open and honest with where you are at in your personal journey and to bring forward any challenges you may be experiencing.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with my partner of many years and our four grandchildren. I love being outdoors and try to spend time in the mountains as often as I can. I enjoy walking, sitting by a fire, spending time with friends and family, laughing as much as I can, and swimming with the grandkids. I wish I could say that I love cooking as this would make my life less stressful. But I don’t.
I offer appointments on Sundays each week. I am currently offering counselling to individual adult clients.
